New Grandparents!

Hi everyone, one of my best friends became a grandma for the first time on 27th September (Dylan, a gorgeous little boy with a mop of black hair) so naturally I couldn't let the occasion pass without making a special card to celebrate the occasion...

An A4 sheet of white card was folded to A5 and the top portion embossed using Craft Concepts' 'Dragonflies' embossing folder and my Happy Cut machine, the folder isn't quite big enough to cover the whole area in one pass, so it was carefully repositioned and...well you can't see the join!  Each little dragonfly was then individually hand coloured with a lovely blue Hi-Text 'metal' marker, it didn't take too long and I think was worth the effort.  The stripey paper on the bottom portion of the card is from  my stash, but I highlighted along the stripes with a Sakura Glitter Pen just to 'bling' it up a bit.  'Baby Bamboo' (Party Paws) was stamped onto supersmooth cardstock with black Memento ink and then the sweet little image was hand coloured  using Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers:-
CT2; 3 & 4, OR1 for the star, True Black/Blender & BG2/Blender for 'Bamboo' and TB1 & 3 for the 'sling', simply layering the darker blue to add depth and shade detail.  I traced around the image using BG2 to help it 'pop' from the plain background.  (Party Paws stamps and Spectrum Noirs are available from Crafters Companion).

Mats and layers were cut with Spellbinders Labels 29, tracing around the outer edge of the relevant dies to make the silver holographic/mirri mats which were then cut by hand.  I find it easier to trace onto the shiny side of mirri or holographic card using a fine embossing tool, and once cut I run my thumbnail around the shape; it seems to bevel and smooth the edge and gives a much better finish.  Blue double-sided satin 1/8th inch  ribbon was then braided and a small button added at either end to reflect the sentiment, then peel offs added as the final touch.

My friend was delighted with the card and the pictures she showed me of Baby Dylan were absolutely gorgeous, he's (as we say 'Up North') a 'little belter' and I'm looking forward to having a cuddle in the not too distant future!

Hope you like the card too, and if you would like to leave a comment, then please do - I love to read them. Thanks for stopping by and, until next time, take care.

I'm entering this card into the following challenges:-
